PIONIER connected to the East
On 17th of August 2010, installation of a new DWDM optical transmission system ADVA Optical Networking’s on its own fiber optic lines in relation PIONIER Elbląg – Braniewo – Gronowo was completed. In this way, there is a possibility of connecting o the PIONIER network to the research network in Russia (Kaliningrad). Currently 10 Gbit /s optical channel is available.
One of the key elements of the PIONIER network are the existing and planned direct fiber connections to foreign operators. Using these connections enables cheap, fast and direct access to major nodes such as Internet exchanges in Frankfurt, Germany and connections with research networks in other countries. These links exist on the border with Germany (Slubice – DFN, Gubin, Kołbaskowo network connection), Czech Republic (Cieszyn – CESNET network connection), Slovakia (Zwardon – Sanet network connection) and Ukraine (Hrebenne – UARNET network connection and URAN).

In mid-August 2010 PIONIER network has expanded its reach also to the north-east. On 17th August 2010, installation of a new DWDM optical transmission system ADVA Optical Networking’s on its own fiber optic lines in relation PIONIER Elbląg – Braniewo – Gronowo was completed. In this way, there is a possibility of connecting the PIONIER network to the research network in Russia (Kaliningrad). Currently 10 Gbit /s optical channel is available.
