Have a look at the photo gallery of otolaryngology surgery which took place in the Department of Otolaryngology of Poznan University of Medical Sciences. Live transmission from the operating room on the Internet was enabled by Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center.

Webcast attracted great interest. Only in less than two hours there were approximately 400 hits on the broadcast side. However, transmission could have been seen by even more than 400 people. In many parts of Poland the operation was watched online by groups of doctors and medical students. Medics were also able to ask questions during the surgery.

This is the fourth such operation transmitted from the Department by Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center. According to Professor Witold Szyfter – manager of the facility, Poznan is a pioneer in introducing such modern e-health solutions. Such transmissions are a unique chance to train doctors and students at a distance.

During today’s surgery the doctors reconstructed the larynx of a man suffering from cancer, so he wouldn’t lose his voice. The patient feels well after the surgery.
