eChallenges e-2010: On telemedicine and Virtual Laboratory of Interactive Teaching
During the three-day eChallenges e-2010 Conference Poznań Supercomputing and Networking Center presented its achievements. On the last day of the event two projects were presented: Wielkopolska Center of Telemedicine and Virtual Laboratory of Interactive Teaching.
The first of the projects was presented by Michał Kosiedowski in his speech “Wielkopolska Center of Telemedicine: case study”. The aim of the WCT project is creating ICT infrastructure that provides a number of telemedicine services. These services allow professionals from clinical departments of the Poznań University of Medical Sciences to share knowledge and experiences with other employees of the health care system in the region. The project aims to provide the following services for telemedicine of Wielkopolska health care system: medical teleconsultation, medical teleeducation, supporting clinical decision process and reporting for specialized supervision institutions. The pilot area of medicine for launching Wielkopolska Center of Telemedicine will be traumatic surgery. The running of this infrastructure is scheduled for April 2011.

The main objectives of the Virtual Laboratory of Interactive Teaching were presented by Filip Koczorowski in a presentation titled “New Technologies in Nature Science Teaching – Virtual Laboratory of Interactive Teaching”. This project is one of the cornerstones of the project entitled: “Building a learning network for the environment and the protection of hermit beetle within the Natura 2000 network Biedrusko PLH 300001”, conducted by the National Forests in Łopuchówko. Due to the growth of the Internet, e-learning services are becoming increasingly popular as means of knowledge transmition. This method of education gives not just a big opportunity to present the substantive content, its interactivity, or the independence of students during the exercises, but also flexible working hours and the convenience of residents. We expect therefore that the proposed scheme will not only add value or increase the educational level of environmental awareness among students, but it is beneficial to the approach to e-services in education, which will have an impact on their promotion.

Projects submitted by PSNC to this year’s conference perfectly formed part of its educational nature. The idea of EChallenges is to promote development of new trends and solutions in the field of Internet technologies used in different areas of life.
