Data-Driven Bioeconomy

The goal of DataBio is to show the benefits of Big Data technologies in the raw material production from agriculture, forestry and fishery for the Bio-economy industry to produce food, energy and biomaterials responsibly and sustainably. To achieve this goal, DataBio proposes to deploy a state of the art, big data platform for the discovery, retrieval and processing of data related to agriculture, forestry and fishery, on top of the existing partners’ infrastructure and solutions, in order to realize the following objectives:
Objective 1: Build a versatile DataBio platform suitable for different industries and user profiles
Objective 2: Ensure effective utilization of existing data sets
Objective 3: Ensure a wide-spread use of the DataBio platform technologies in the agriculture, forestry and fishery sectors
Objective 4: Opening the possibilities for European ICT industry including SMEs to participate actively on European and World-Wide Bio-economy Big Data market
Objective 5: Opening the possibilities for European Earth Observation industry including SMEs offering their new Bio-economy related services in Europe and World Wide.
Objective 6: Ensure interoperability and easy setup of new multivendor applications utilizing Big DataBio Platform
DataBio includes 26 pilots, in the 3 sectors x 3 thematic groups, which will be used for the validation of the proposed platform.
The DataBio Platform architecture has been structured into a number of areas, including: Bio-economy applications; EO data processing, extraction, conversion and fusion services; advanced visualisation services; predictive analytics and machine learning; real-time analytics and stream processing; big data management, acquisition and processing.
PSNC is a main infrastructure provider, big data platform provider, and key contributor to linked data management and publication.
